I love him because he says all the things the rest of us WISH we could say. (I admit that sometimes I cringe at some of the things he says, but I think the writers do a good job of not being completely and utterly offensive.)
I realize that if he were a real person he'd have been fired and likely put in jail a long time ago, but it's just great fun (IMHO) to see something different on TV. Usually the eccentric and/or cranky characters are not the main character, but with House we get to OD on his curmudgeon-ness. (The writing on that show is just great; I can't go 5 minutes without cracking up over something.)
And Hugh Laurie just oozes sex, dontcha think? He is just so incredibly talented yet he is modest and humble (if not self-deprecating). That makes him even more sexy to me.
